Africa basil or scent leaf (Ocimum gratissimum)



Ocimum gratissimum, also known as African basil or scent leaf in some parts of Nigeria, is refer to as Ebe-amwonkho in Edo language,
Efinrin in Yoruba, Daidoya in Hausa, Nchuanwu in Igbo and Ntong in Efik among others. It is a perennial aromatic shrub.The leaves are ovoid-lanceolate,with the flower being a collected inflorescence of false whorls which is found at the end of each branches, scent leaf plant has a very tiny round dark brown seeds.
Ocimum is propagated using either seeds or stem with the later getting to maturity faster than the formal. It does well in well drain soil with a minimum of pH:5.6 and 7.5 maximum.
